Legal Person Identification (LPID) Issuer (URI-based Identifier)

Description

A Legal Person Identification (LPID) Issuer is a trust service responsible for issuing and managing legal entity identifiers within the EU Digital Identity framework. Typically operated by business registries or competent authorities in EU Member States, LPID Issuers provide verified legal entity credentials that organisations use for authentication, regulatory compliance, and cross-border transactions.

The issuer ensures compliance with Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 (eIDAS), amended by EU Regulation 2024/1183, and EU Regulation 2024/2977), guaranteeing secure issuance, validation, and lifecycle management of legal entity identifiers.

Requirements

The issuer must ensure the following:

• Conformance to EU Digital Identity Wallet architecture and legal entity identification standards.
• Secure verification of business registration data from official national or cross-border registries.
• Strong authentication and cryptographic protections for issued LPID credentials.
• Interoperability with Legal Person Wallet Providers and other trust services.
• Real-time status reporting, including validity, suspension, and revocation of LPID credentials.
• Alignment with EU-wide business identity frameworks for seamless cross-border recognition.
